Weighted Items

Weighted Items gives every carried item a physical cost. A backpack full of stone, iron and gold no longer feels the same as a few feathers and some food. The mod changes how movement responds to mass rather than applying the vanilla Slowness effect, so a loaded player builds momentum gradually and takes longer to stop.

What changes under load

Creative mode, spectator mode, flight, vehicles and elytra travel are excluded. Slow Falling and Levitation still take priority over the mod's vertical physics.

Weight classes

Items are classified by material and type. Feathers, wool and similar supplies contribute very little. Stone, iron, gold, anvils and other dense materials matter much more. Stack size is always taken into account.

The calculation covers the complete player inventory, armor, off-hand items, bundles and container contents up to a safe nesting depth. Unclassified items use a conservative standard weight.

Configuration

Install Mod Menu to get a Configure button on the Weighted Items entry. The configuration screen has separate pages for interface, movement and survival realism.

Available settings include:

The same values are stored in config/weighted_items.json, so dedicated-server owners can edit them without Mod Menu. The server sends its gameplay settings to clients when they join, keeping client movement prediction aligned with server authority. HUD, tooltip and FOV visibility remain personal client choices.

Commands

Datapack support

Weight categories use regular synchronized item tags under the weighted_items namespace. Modpack authors can add modded items or rebalance existing items with a datapack instead of editing the JAR.
