The Abyss Expansion — v0.2.0 (Minecraft Bedrock add-on)

Needs the "Beta APIs" experiment (custom dimensions are a Script API beta feature).

What's in 0.2.0

Performance (the lag fix)

• World generation runs on a per-tick millisecond budget (default 3 ms) that adapts: if ticks slow past ~56 ms the budget shrinks, otherwise it creeps up. Players waiting at the gate get a bigger budget so arrival is quick.

• ~70% fewer API calls per chunk (≈300 avg vs ≈1100): runs of identical columns merge into single fills; the ceiling is plateaued.

• Lagoon water is a separate pass that waits for all 8 neighbouring chunks, so it can never pour into void.

• Live knobs: /scriptevent abyss:perf and /scriptevent abyss:budget <ms> (0 = adaptive).

• Hollow Warden — 166 cubes: horned skull with jaw & teeth, exposed ribcage around a pulsing core, layered pauldrons, clawed hands with swaying broken chains, bone-blade wings, tattered cloak, orbiting shard halo. Idle / walk / attack animations; turns crimson when enraged (entity property + second texture).

• Lurker (hunched, gaunt), Gloomfang (skeletal hound with tail & jaws), Gloom Wisp (floating jelly), Hollow Knight (plate armour, sword, tower shield).

• Textures are painted per face: riveted plate, cracked obsidian with emissive veins, bone, horn, frayed cloth. Glow uses entity_emissive_alpha (low-alpha pixels glow).

• Sculpted blocks: Altar, Abyssal Gate, Brazier, Pillar, Gloom Crystal (floor + hanging), Glowcap.

Content

• Mobs: Gloomfang (pairs, lunge), Gloom Wisp (harmless, drops Wisp Essence), Hollow Knight (elite guard).
• Items: Hollow Blade (dash), Rift Compass (points at structures), Elixir of Deep Sight, Wisp Essence.
• Structure: Fallen Colossus (giant ribcage + skull, chest in its jaw). Guards are now mixed (knights/hounds/lurkers).
• Terrain regions: Gloom Fields (crystals/glowcaps), Depths, Bone Barrens (calcite, bone blocks).
• Boss: new Chain Hook ability pulls players who stray 11–30 blocks away.

Install

1. Open The_Abyss_Expansion.mcaddon in Minecraft.
2. New world → Experiments → Beta APIs ON (plus "Upcoming Creator Features" if listed separately).
3. Activate The Abyss Expansion BP (the RP comes with it). Cheats on for testing.

If it still lags

1. abyss:perf — look at tick= (should sit near 50 ms) and budget=.
2. Pin a low budget: abyss:budget 1.5 (slower terrain, smoother game). abyss:budget 0 returns to adaptive.
3. Edit BP/scripts/config.js: lower ABYSS.GEN_RADIUS (3→2), BUDGET_MAX_MS, or MAX_QUEUE.
4. Mobs: lower MOB_CAP / WISP_CAP. Heavy entity models + many mobs cost frame time on weak devices.
