The timer is displayed as a small overlay on your screen. It starts as soon as you start moving in a newly created world. The timer will keep on running throughout your entire game and will only stop once you jump into the End portal after defeating the dragon. Once you respawn in the Overworld after the end credits, you can find the paused timer on your screen displaying your time.
