A copper pickaxe can mine the same blocks as an iron one. Copper is used for repairs. Copper-gold equipment is even better and more durable than iron. Plus, such items support more varieties of enchantments. The pickaxe can mine the same blocks as a diamond one. Gold or copper is used for repairs. Don't forget to enable experimental options in map settings.
