Where to download Minecraft Bedrock addons safely (2026)

An addon file is data, not a program, so the real risk is the page around it: fake files, ad mazes and re-uploaded paid packs. Here is how to tell a trustworthy source from a bad one, and which sources we would use. Written for Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.x and 26.x.

The short version: (1) Use the in-game Marketplace, CurseForge or a community site where you can see the author and the exact file. (2) A real addon is a .mcpack, .mcaddon or .zip; an .apk or .exe is never an addon. (3) Walk away from "click five ads" pages and from free copies of paid Marketplace packs.

What makes a source safe

No site can promise that every file on it is harmless, including ours. What you can do is judge a source by what it shows you and how it behaves. Five things matter:

  • The file was opened by someone. The best sources, and any catalog worth using, look inside the pack and tell you what they found: its manifest, the game version it asks for, whether it is complete. A bare download link tells you nothing.
  • No re-packed paid content. Packs sold on the Minecraft Marketplace belong to their creators. A source that hands them out free is distributing something it has no right to, and you cannot know what else was changed in the file.
  • Dependencies are declared. Many addons need a second pack to work. A good source says so on the page. A source that never mentions it gives you a download that imports and then does nothing.
  • The file matches what it claims to be. Bedrock content is .mcpack, .mcaddon, .mcworld, .mctemplate or a .zip of those. Anything else (an installer, an .apk, an .exe) is not an addon, whatever the button says.
  • No toll booth. "Watch five ads", "complete a survey", "verify you are human" by installing something: the page is earning from your click, not helping you get the file.

Sources we'd use

These are facts about how each source works as of October 2026, not a ranking. All of them carry content from many different authors, so the checks above still apply.

Minecraft Marketplace

The official in-game store (minecraft.net/marketplace). Content is made by approved creators and delivered inside Minecraft, so there is no file to download or open by hand. Most of it costs Minecoins, and some is free. It is the safest route when you are happy to pay or when a free pack is there.

CurseForge

A large (Bedrock section), long-established platform with a Minecraft Bedrock section. Authors publish under their own account, each file has a version and a changelog, and the page shows which Minecraft version it was made for. Downloads happen on CurseForge itself rather than through a chain of redirects.

MCPEDL

One of the oldest (mcpedl.com) community sites for Bedrock content, with a big archive. Pages show the author and the supported version. Some download links lead to the author's own hosting, and the pages carry ads, so make sure the button you press downloads the file and is not an advertisement.

Planet Minecraft

A community site (planetminecraft.com) where creators post maps, skins, texture packs and other projects, with comments from other players under each one. Quality varies by author, so read the comments and check the file type before you open it.

ModBay

A community site (modbay.org) for Bedrock addons and other content. Same advice: look at who posted it, what the file is, and what the comments say.

Our catalog and the MC Bedrock Mods app

MC Mods Hub gathers Bedrock content from public sources and keeps a link to the original page for every item. For most addons we also keep a copy of the file, so the download does not send you through another site, and we open the file to read what is inside it (details below). We do not write the addons: each belongs to its author. MC Bedrock Mods is the official mcmodshub.com app for Android, and it imports the file into Minecraft in one tap.

What we check in our catalog

These numbers are printed by our own pages, and each carries the date it was measured. They count files, not promises: they say what we could read, not that an addon will work on your phone.

  • Add-ons: 23,653 of 26,653 download straight in our app from our own copy of the file. We opened 21,804 of those and found a complete pack inside; 164 failed that check and are listed lower on the page. Source: /bedrock/addons, last file check 2026-10-05.
  • Shaders: 902 of 942 download straight in our app. We opened 875 and found a complete pack; 17 failed. Source: /bedrock/shaders, last file check 2026-10-05.
  • Missing dependencies: 2,302 packages declare a dependency they do not ship, which means the download alone cannot work. This is read from the manifest, not guessed. Measured 2026-09-05, across the 39,561 archives we had analysed at that point (sources: your add-on needs another add-on and llms.txt).
  • Where downloads really fail: we read 24,197 “this mod is broken” reports from our app between 16 June and 2 August 2026. 35.7% said the file never arrived and 35.0% said Minecraft would not open it, so about seven in ten problems happen before the addon ever runs. Only 16.7% were about the addon misbehaving in the game. Details: we read 24,197 reports.
  • On every addon page: the Minecraft versions the author lists, the file type, the download size and the date of our last link check, for example “Download link checked 30 Jun 2026” on Modern Furniture. If an addon needs the Beta APIs experiment or a second pack, the page says so where our check found it.

We also do not want paid Marketplace packs in the catalog, and we remove them when we find one. The numbers on the hub pages change daily, so they may be higher or lower by the time you read this. What our check does not do: it reads the structure of a pack, it does not run it in the game, and it is not an antivirus scan. The rule from the first section still holds for our files too.

Red flags

  • The download is an .apk, .exe, .msi, .bat or an installer. Bedrock addons are never programs.
  • A .jar offered for Bedrock. It is a Java Edition mod and will not open on a phone or console; it is a sign the page is careless at best. See Bedrock vs Java mods.
  • You must install a "download manager", "launcher" or "optimizer" first.
  • The page asks you to switch off your phone's protection, or to allow unknown apps, to "install the addon". Addons need neither.
  • "Click five ads", surveys, or a countdown that loops through several short links before the file.
  • A paid Marketplace pack offered for free, or an archive locked with a password that you get from a chat channel.
  • No author, no version and no description: a title and a button, and nothing else.

After you download: how to install

Open the file and Minecraft imports it. Then activate the packs inside your world, which is the step most people miss. The full flow is in How to install Minecraft Bedrock addons & mods. If you got an .mcaddon on Android, this page covers the file-opening part.

FAQ

Where can I download Minecraft Bedrock addons safely?

Use a source that shows you the author, the file type and the game version: the in-game Marketplace, CurseForge, MCPEDL, Planet Minecraft or a catalog that opens the files, like ours. A real addon is a .mcpack, .mcaddon or .zip; an .apk or .exe is never an addon. Walk away from "click five ads" pages and from free copies of paid Marketplace packs. No site, including ours, can promise that every file is harmless.

Is MCPEDL safe?

We cannot certify any site we do not run. MCPEDL is a long-running community site where authors post Bedrock content, and many people use it without trouble. Treat it like every community source: look at who posted the file, make sure the file you open ends in .mcpack, .mcaddon or .zip, and do not press buttons that belong to ads. The same checks apply to Planet Minecraft, ModBay and every other site on this page.

Can an addon contain a virus?

A real Bedrock addon is data that Minecraft reads: JSON definitions, textures, sounds, and sometimes scripts that run inside the game. It is not an Android or Windows program. The danger is the wrapper: an .apk or .exe sold as an addon, an installer or a "downloader" you must run first, or a page that asks you to turn off your phone's protection. If the file is a .mcpack, .mcaddon or .zip and it opens in Minecraft, it is an addon. If it is anything else, do not open it.

Are addons free?

Most addons from community sites are free. The Minecraft Marketplace sells content for Minecoins, and some authors offer optional paid versions or early access. If a site offers a well-known Marketplace pack for free, treat that as a red flag: it is almost always a re-upload of paid content, and the file may not even work.

Why does an addon ask me to download another addon?

Some addons are built on top of a second pack, and the manifest of the first one lists it as a dependency. That is normal and not a sign of a scam, but it does mean the download alone cannot work. We explain how to find the missing pack in Your add-on needs another add-on.
