This has probably been the largest map project I've done thus far. After 2 long years of planning, terrain making, converting, re-making, building, and adding cool features, this project is finally ready to hit the public. This took a lot of time and work, so I really hope you all enjoy the newest ecosystem map installment for the WILD MAPS series!!
Introducing the:
Take an expedition trip to one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet, and one of the greatest habitats on the continent of South America: the Amazon rainforest! This map takes place in an area of rainforest in Brazil and represents its lush, beautiful, and abundant ecosystem. Explore the village, trek through dense tropical foliage, and learn about this habitat and the many Brazilian species it holds. Below is information on both the Amazon and what you'll discover while traversing this new ecosystem map!:
Spanning 6 million square miles, the Amazon rainforest is the world's largest tropical rainforest. The basin spans 9 South American countries: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The Amazon is known for its 4 main layers that each act as their own mini ecosystem. These 4 layers include:
The Emergent layer (the very highest layer of the rainforest, with bright sunlight, and where the tallest trees grow)
The Canopy (the dense, 20-foot-thick leafy roof that blocks out most rain, sun, and wind; it is also where you can find sloths, toucans, howler monkeys, etc.)
The Understory (A dark, warm, and humid environment located just beneath the canopy, filled with shrubs, small trees, and broad-leafed plants, and home to frogs, snakes, insects, and reptiles)
The Forest floor ( the very, very bottom of the forest far below the canopy, where no sunlight shines. It's dark and damp, as well as being a place where fallen leaves and organic matter decay, and species like armadillos, anteaters, and the great jaguar.)
These layers fully make up the Amazon and are each unique in both flora and fauna. The many giant trees and various plants that make up the Amazon act as a massive carbon sink, storing over 150 tons of it through photosynthesis. Then carbon stays locked in the leaves and wood for years and even centuries, which is why deforestation has become a massive problem for this fragile habitat. This tropical habitat is also one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on our planet, home to almost 10% of all known species on Earth. This rainforest holds about 40,000 plants, 16,000 tree species, 3,000 freshwater fish, 1,300 birds, 430+ mammal species, 1,000+ amphibians, 400+ reptile species, and over 2.5 million insects (including over 4,000 species of butterflies alone), all of which depend on the habitat's existence for food, water, and shelter. However, it's not just wild animals that rely on the Amazon for survival; humans do as well, with about 350 native indigenous groups living and thriving in the Amazon, some of which stay uncontacted with the outside world. They survive by hunting, fishing, agriculture, foraging for certain plants for food and traditional remedies, and soil cultivation. Each group has not only its own method of survival, but also its own cultural practices, traditions, and identities. The large river basin that the Amazon is known for (and where the name "Amazon Basin" comes from) is the largest drainage basin in the world, covering about 2.7 million square miles, and carries more fresh water than the other nine largest rivers. It has over 1,000 tributaries that all flow into a main stem that pours immense volumes of water into the Atlantic. The river system, much like the rainforest, holds a lot of unique wildlife as well, such as pink river dolphins, arapaimas, and the famous electric eel. This fragile and wild ecosystem is one of great fascination, beauty, and diversity, but the Amazon basin is still facing many dire threats to its existence, some of which directly add to the already present climate crisis and threaten already endangered species, such as deforestation, logging, poaching/overfishing, and wildfires. Thankfully, there are many efforts to preserve the unique web of life that relies on this diverse rainforest for survival, with many indigenous communities having their hand in protecting as many acres of the Amazon as possible and living with the environment instead of against it; with conservation efforts at work and with luck, this unique world can continue to exist for many years to come and continues to aid in the health of the planet. (Further information on the Amazon rainforest can be found here and here )
Now for the map itself!! The map's size is about 3,840 x 3,840 blocks, so it's a pretty large map! Perfect not only for long exploration, but also for any builds that players decide to make within it as well. The map contains custom-made structures and locations for players to discover, including a large village based on real-life indigenous structures and a couple of river boats in the river areas. Each location contains good loot for people to seek out and use for crafting/trading purposes. The map has ores and resources underneath it as well, waiting to be dug up, so the map can be played in both creative and survival modes if you desire. I have also incorporated an educational aspect of the map to teach players about the environment the map is supposed to represent, so that each ecosystem map feels very interactive for those who want to learn about the map they play in. Keep in mind this map is not meant to be an exact replica of the entire Amazon rainforest, but a map that's supposed to represent a fraction of the rainforest located in Brazil, and is a broad characterization representing the beauty and wonder this magnificent tropical habitat has to offer!! Now, without further ado, I present what you will find while exploring the map, structures and all!! :
STRUCTURES:
During your exploration of the map, you will find custom structures in different areas of the rainforest, and, as stated above, they contain different types of loot to discover and collect. Each structure also contains bits of lore you can find if you look hard enough. You'll find the location of each custom structure below:
AMAZON RAINFOREST MAP LOCATIONS:
Kokama Village:
This village is the spawning point and the first collection of structures you'll see as you enter the map. This village is based on the stilt-house structures built by the Kokama people, an indigenous group that thrives near rivers in the Amazon basin. They build their houses and other structures on stilts to last against the seasonal flooding the Amazon rainforest experiences.
The village from above:

Stilt houses:

Inside one of the houses (each house is unique):

At the front of the village is the chief's hut, where the village gatherings and traditional events are held. Inside, you'll find the chief of the villagers at the podium, as well as food and books to help you learn about the lore around the area:

In the middle of the village is a small community cooking area where the villagers cook meat and fresh catches of fish they bring back from the river!

The Cattle farm is where the Amazon village keeps its large livestock. You'll find pigs and village cattle roaming in herds inside the farm pen, and even occasionally being let out to graze by the villagers.
Watch out for jaguars wanting to hunt the livestock!!

This Village crop farm is where most of the Kokama village's fruits and vegetables are grown and cooked to feed their people; this structure also contains seeds and tools for you to replant new crops for the village:

The oil palm grove is were, African oil palms are grown and harvested for their fruits to collect and sell off to other areas of the world, and use for resources for the village as well:

Spawning point:

And that's the last of the village; there is other small stuff, but that's for you to discover for yourself!
Fishing Lake area:
Down south from the Kokama village, into the wild and dense foliage, you'll find a large lake area at the end of one of the map's rivers. This lake is a very popular fishing ground, where a variety of colorful freshwater fish live and swim up the river too. On the water, you'll find bright fishing canoes that come from the village, small motor boats, and game fishing houses for tourists to stay in! You can take a swim and explore the life underneath the lake or fish through the lake and catch something to eat.

Fishing canoes on the water:

The Game fishing houses are a great place to stay for tourist that have come to the amazon rainforest for fun game fishing trips. the houses float on the water and have little mini docks attaching them to the land, and are made for the guest luxury in this tropical habitat:

Rest near the campfire!

Amazon Tour boat:
Wanna take a relaxing cruise through the Amazon's lush and tropical river system? Well, hop onto the Amazon River tour boat where guests can float down the Amazon basin and see all the beautiful wildlife the rainforest has to offer! This structure is fully stocked with food, water, tools, and other items you'll definitely need. You'll find the tour boat down the river near the fishing grounds.
The tour boat:

Note: (Boat doesn't actually move; it is another structure you can find on the map)
The Jaguar den:
Deep in the rainforest, in its deepest parts, lies the home den of the Amazon's apex predator. This is the den of a jaguar that has been here for a long time, and the inside of the den still has remains of its previous kills inside, bones and all. The den is very dark, so watch where you step.
Jaguar den (outside and inside):

Inside is a yellow crate containing items, including a special book I'll explain the purpose of below.
Abandoned Biology camp:
This abandoned campsite is overgrown with plants; it used to belong to a group of researchers who took an expedition here to Brazil to research the wild plants and animals in the rainforest. They also came here to search for a thought-to-have-been-extinct species that used to have thrived in the South American rainforest. Unfortunately, the researchers were attacked and had to abandon the camp; they managed to take some things with them, but most of the things they brought were left behind, including some of their equipment, which you can now use for what you need.

Old poacher hideout:
Hidden in the rainforest is a hideout where dangerous poachers and animal trappers not only hide from the authorities, but also hide their illegal catches. Thankfully, the hideout was discovered, and so were the poachers.
Outside of the hideout:

Inside the hideout:

Note: (there's something special in this location, something you'll absolutely recognize)
BONUS:
Visitor lodge:
Back in the village, along with the house structures, is the Kokama visitor lodge, a tourist ecolodge that people who come to visit the Amazon can book to stay in and learn about the culture of the village as well as the wildlife. The lodge has a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and a lush tropical-themed Brazilian bedroom.
Outside of the lodge:

Inside the ecolodge:

The bedroom area:

This is the perfect place to stay when starting your Amazon adventure!
Horse Stables:
At the entrance to the village, you'll see a small horse stable where village horses are stored and cared for. The horses are also used by villagers to either trek the rainforest or for farm work.
Horse stables:

And that concludes the last of the map's custom structures! I made sure these structures provided the adequate resources you will need to survive and thrive in this map. I hope you fully enjoy them!
When developing the map, I decided that, alongside the custom structures, I wanted to add an educational aspect to the map (as well as future maps). I not only wanted players to explore and have fun with this map, but also to learn about the places that they are visiting through Minecraft maps. I decided to add it in a way that encourages more exploration of different areas of the rainforest.
Information crates:
Dotted around different locations on the map are small yellow bamboo crates. Inside each one are tools and items, but most importantly, educational fact books that give you fun facts about the real-life Amazon basin. Each individual crate contains a fact book you'll have to trek through the map to search for. Below is another image of the specific locations of the yellow crates. Most of the crates you'll find are in some already existing structures.
Locations of the information crates:

Note: (The larger yellow circle represents the village, and it contains 3 fact books within the village area)
Each yellow crate has a torch next to it to make it easier for players to find, especially at night:

This crate is located near the western highland hill areas in a harpy eagle nest:

These are just a few examples of what they look like when you look for them.
Aaaaand that fully concludes the "about the map" section and covers everything you need to know! This info helps you get an idea of navigating structures, locations, etc. I'm super happy to finally release this map to the public after a long time in development! This is my biggest project that I've made, and im extatic to share it with you all. I have more projects in the works, and this map should definitely be one for all the wildlife and ecosystem enthusiasts who play Minecraft (bedrock/java). This project is mainly for Bedrock, but will be released for 1.21 Minecraft Java in the future. Thank you all so much, and again, I hope you enjoy your expedition through the Amazon Rainforest map!!
