BetterRTX is a free, community-built shader mod that adds proper ray-traced lighting to Minecraft Bedrock – reflections, shadows and better light behavior layered on top of your existing textures, not a texture pack replacement. It’s maintained by an independent open-source team and isn’t affiliated with NVIDIA or Mojang. This page hosts the current standalone installer app – you download and run a real program, not a script pasted into a terminal, and it places its files alongside your normal Minecraft install without overwriting anything.

Features:

System Requirements:

Windows 10/11, 64-bit, with a ray-tracing-capable GPU – this is a hardware requirement, not just a recommendation, since the effect is real ray tracing rather than a lighting approximation.

Before You Install:

The installer needs to place files inside Minecraft’s own install folder, and a normal Microsoft Store copy of Minecraft keeps that folder locked while the app is registered. You have two options: install Minecraft through a third-party sideloading launcher instead of the Microsoft Store (this avoids the lock entirely), or keep your normal Store install and use a file-unlocking utility to let the installer write to it. If your first install attempt fails with a permissions/file-lock error, this is almost always why.
