Minecraft Bedrock add-ons on iPhone and iPad
Short answer: download the add-on file (.mcaddon, .mcpack or .mcworld) on the iPhone, tap Share, and pick Minecraft. The game imports it: a pack shows up under Resource Packs or Behavior Packs when you create or edit a world, and a map appears in your world list. No computer and no jailbreak needed.
The quickest way: Addonaut
Addonaut is a free iPhone and iPad app with a catalogue of add-ons, maps, texture packs, shaders and skins, searchable by name and by theme (horror, vehicles, furniture, dragons…). Only work whose authors allowed it to be shared is listed, and every item links to its original page.
- Open Addonaut, find an add-on in the catalogue and tap Download. The share sheet opens by itself when the file is in.
- Pick Minecraft in the row of apps. To keep the file for later, pick Save to Files instead.
- Minecraft opens and imports the file; a short message at the top of the screen confirms it.
- Tap Play → Create New World. If Minecraft first shows a "Create from…" page with Marketplace content, tap Create New World on it again.
- In the left column, scroll down to Behavior Packs (add-ons) or Resource Packs (textures, shaders), open the Available tab and tap Activate next to the pack. To add it to a world you already have, tap the pencil next to that world instead of Create New World.
The pack may be listed under its in-game name, which can differ from the title in the catalogue — and in your game's language. Some add-ons also need Experiments switched on in the same screen; their description says so.
A map (.mcworld) needs no activation: after the import it is in your world list. Minecraft has to be installed on the same iPhone or iPad; if it is missing from the row of apps, swipe the row to the end and tap More.
Without an app: from Safari
- Open the add-on's page and download the file. Safari puts it in Files → Downloads.
- In Files, tap the file. If iOS shows a preview instead of opening Minecraft, tap Share → Minecraft.
- Activate the pack in the world settings, as above.
If the file came as a .zip, it is not ready to import: see Unable to find manifest in pack.
Which file is which
| File | What it is | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| .mcaddon | behavior pack and resource pack together | both lists |
| .mcpack | one pack: resources (textures, shaders) or behavior | Resource Packs or Behavior Packs |
| .mcworld | a whole map | the world list |
| .mctemplate | a world template | Create New World → Templates |
If it doesn't work
- Add-on installed but nothing shows up
- Add-on stopped working after an update
- The add-on needs another add-on
- Wrong file extension (.mcpack vs .mcaddon)
FAQ
Is it free?
Yes. Addonaut is free, and downloading from the catalogue costs nothing. The app can show ads; an optional purchase removes them.
Do I need an account?
No — neither for Addonaut nor for downloading.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, the same way.
Can I make my own skin on iPhone?
Yes — Addonaut has a skin studio: draw pixel by pixel, dress up from a wardrobe, or describe an idea and let the app draw it, then export a .mcpack.
